The Whole Town’s Talking

This movie, starring Edward G. Robinson as both the “milque toast” hero and the killer-villain, is one of those strange movies from the 30’s.  In some ways, I would call this “strangeness” lame (mostly because it didn’t always hold my attention).  In other ways, the strangeness (of this era’s style?), (which is to say it doesn’t conform to contemporary cookie-cutter models of comedy or thriller or detective genres), is much of what makes the movie watchable (and at times very interesting or even funny).  I’m not sure I’d ever want to watch it again, but it was uniquely entertaining.
